Univar Announces Exclusive Agreement With Midwest Agri Commodities
REDMOND, Wash. – August 20, 2009 – Univar announced a mutually exclusive business agreement with Midwest Agri Commodities to supply rafinates, otherwise known as de-sugared sugar beet molasses, for Univar’s deicing and freeze proofing applications in the United States and Canada.
Univar offers an all-natural solution to de-icing through ICE BITE®, an agricultural product derived from renewable resources that reduces the cost of corrosion caused by salt and salt brine while improving the safety of roads. “The agreement with Midwest Agri gives Univar a reliable source and the volumes we need to supply ICE BITE® to city, county municipalities and provinces throughout North America,” said Louis Biondo, Sales & Marketing Manager – Calcium, Magnesium Chloride & Related Products Group. “Midwest Agri produces a majority percent of the rafinates produced in North America. We are fortunate to have an exclusive agreement with them.”
ICE BITE® is a high performance de-icing alternative that combines salt brine with de-sugared sugar beet molasses that helps prevent ice and snow from sticking to pavement. It reduces salt usage by as much as 30% which in turn reduces corrosion and salt cost.
